Abstract

Pylera® comprises three (bismuth subcitrate potassium+ metronidazole + tetracycline hydrochloride) of four components of bismuth-based quadruple therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in a single capsule. The 10-day regimen consists of the relatively convenient administration of Pylera® four times daily + twice-daily administration of the proton pump inhibitor omeprazole. This regimen provides an effective, well tolerated and relatively convenient option for administering bismuth-based quadruple therapy, which a recommended first- and second-line treatment for H. pylori eradication. The Pylera® regimen effectively eradicated H. pylori, regardless of the treatment-line, resistance of the bacterial strain to metronidazole and/or clarithromycin, the type of gastric disease and the country of treatment.
